The spring of 2020 was a very reflective time. A time of uncertainty, worry, and an almagamation of many other emotions. It was also a time of reflection, a search for light, for inspiration, and for hope.
It took my friends, family members, neighbours, and I back to happier times. Gatherings, explorations, travels, and other poignant moments in our lives.
Growing up in the eighties and nineties was a particularly memorable time for myself and my siblings as we gathered together each weekend during our younger years watching shows such as The Wonder Years, Friends, The A Team, Cagney and Lacey, Knight Rider, and The Smurfs.
We reminisced about those days. We sang, and hummed the melodies to the theme songs. It brought up so many great memories. Turning points in our lives, first time experiences, the angst and the excitement of what the world had to offer.
The romanticism, and the constant yearning for new adventures, fused with the need for comfort and familiarity. The Saturday visits to Blockbusters, and Blockbuster's sweet popcorn, followed by Pizza Hut collections, usually Super Supreme. Buying Smash Hits and Just Seventeen after school, and running home filled with infinite excitement in anticipation of the song lyrics and posters that never disappointed. An eclectic mix of genres that shaped our lives, inspired us to dream, and opened up our hearts and minds to a world of love, peace, and hope.
The ritualistic Saturday morning trips to the shops to buy our favourites; Wham Bars, Marathon, Opal Fruits, Yorkie, Monster Munch, Tangy Toms, and all the the other treats that came along with their own theme songs, and memories.
During the period of 2020, we reflected upon those times. The experiences, the magic, the new beginnings, the ending of chapters, the opening of new doors. Often revolving doors.
All the brands that had played a part in our journey, played through our minds, vividly. Our memories would not have felt the same without those TV shows, drinks, cereals, jeans, trainers, train journeys, holidays, scarves, takeaways, concerts, tapes, CDs, packs of tissues, pens, magazines, and all the things in between and beyond.
In 2020 there was a 'glow' in the 'blue'. A light in dark times. Memories that we could reminisce about, laugh, cry, hope, dream, strive, and reignite. That is where Blue Glow Music began.
Blue Glow Music became the way to keep those experiences in our hearts and explore the ways in which brands had helped shape those experiences. By writing songs that celebrated our relationships with brands, it was a way to keep those memories alive. It became a source of comfort, just as it had done for me in 2020.
It became a part of us that we could share with the world, and a story that we could pass on from generation to generation.
